Here's a fun fact about this painting: Painted circa the 1910s, this watercolor captures the original, undisturbed silhouette of Mount Tamalpais. In 1950, the U.S. military leveled the top of the mountain's West Peak, removing over 40 feet of elevation to construct a Cold War-era radar station (the Mill Valley Air Force Station), which permanently altered the iconic ridgeline seen in early California landscapes like this one.

Attributed to KATHERINE M. BALL (1859-1952)

Katherine M. Ball was a prominent California artist, author, and influential arts educator based in San Francisco during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. She served as the Supervisor of Art for San Francisco public schools, where she famously championed the study of Japanese aesthetics and brushwork.
