Stan Painter (1928-2004) studied at the California College of Arts and Crafts and San Jose State, then worked in advertising at BBDO. In 1965 he and his wife opened the Painters Place, a frame shop in Larkspur that is still open. From the mid-1970s he painted full time, mostly Mount Tamalpais and Marin County.
